Documentation: Sites powered by panFMP
On this page we give a list of panFMP-powered metadata portals. The list is grouped by the metadata encoding standard used.
DIF (Directory Interchange Format)
The following portals are hosted by PANGAEA. They all share the same panFMP-Installation and indexes. By using panFMP's virtual indexes the harvested sites are combined for search according to the portal.
Harvested sites contain: PANGAEA (OAI-PMH), Ifremer (OAI-PMH), NMFS-COPEPOD (XML files downloaded from website by web-crawling harvester), CDIAC (XML files downloaded from website by web-crawling harvester). CDIAC is harvested in FGDC format and transformed on-the-fly to DIF.
- CARBOOCEAN data portal
- EUR-OCEANS data portal
- SPICOSA data portal
- SOLAS data portal (in development)
- Portal of the World Data Center System (in development)
These data portals are built using the panFMP web service interface on the search engine. Sites use PHP with PHP-SOAP extension inside a CMS. The web service entry point is available at: http://ws.pangaea.de/portal-DIF/axis
ISO-19115 (encoded with ISO-19139)
The following portals are hosted at different sites and harvest different providers:
- SEDIS (IODP Scientific Earth Drilling Information Service, in development)
- C3Grid portal (panFMP is used for Data Information Service [DIS] and Workflow Information Service [WFIS])
Dublin Core (or similar)
The following portals are hosted at different sites and harvest different providers:
- PLANKTON*NET @ AWI Bremerhaven
- Helmholtz Open Access Portal (in development) @ AWI Bremerhaven
Others
- PANGAEA's own search engine (formerly called "PangaVista") uses panFMP as backend. The metadata records (in a proprietary format) are harvested by a special harvester directly accessing the XML-blobs from a SYBASE database that hosts PANGAEA. This is possible because of the generic harvesting interface of panFMP. Search is powered by a PANGAEA-specific web service on top of panFMP that supports the PHP-based web site. The web service entry point is available at: http://ws.pangaea.de/ws/services
- PAGES portal (in development)
If you have built a portal based on panFMP it would be nice to have it listed here! Please contact us!
